Last episode we talked about the why and complications of obesity. This episode we will discuss some things that you can do to prevent obesity in your child. The first and foremost you should do is talk with your child’s physician. Express your concerns, if they do not share in your concern then find another physician who will.

Pediatric Pearls Show 005: Childhood Obesity (Part 1)

This episode is part 1 of a two part series on childhood/adolescent obesity. Today’s topic will discuss the why of obesity and the complications that may occur with obesity. Episode #6 discusses things that can be done to prevent obesity.

Obesity is currently an epidemic for our children. One in three children and adolescents are overweight or obese. The majority of obese adolescents become obese adults. There is also a strong correlation of parental obesity and the risk of the child becoming obese. Adolescents are starting to show changes in the blood vessels for atherosclerosis.

Pediatric Pearls Show 004: Constipation

Constipation is common in children between the ages of 3-7 years. The definition of constipation is hard painful stools. Some sources feel constipation is failure to pass 3 stools per week. Always discuss a concern of your child’s constipation with his or her physician. The most common form of constipation is “Functional fecal retention”, however, constipation can also be a sign of much more serious issues that need to be addressed.
