Trauma is the number one cause of serious morbidity and mortality in children. Motor vehicle accidents are the number one cause of death. All 50 states have laws mandating the use of child restraint devices for infants traveling in motor vehicle. Many states also have laws for children up to 3 years of age. Only 1/5th of 4-5 year olds are properly restrained at all times while in a motor vehicle.

Urinary tract infections (UTI) in females less than 5 years of age and boys at any age need to be evaluated and properly worked up. Urinary tract infections in young children can many times be due to an anatomic abnormality of the urinary system.
