Traumatic brain injury accounts for 70-80% of trauma deaths in children. Most common cause of traumatic brain injury is motor vehicle accident vs a bicycle. Children do not have proper riding habits and do not wear helmets. Helmets can decrease the risk of bicycle related traumatic brain injury by 70-90%.

Fires increase risk of significant smoke inhalation injuries to children. Smoke detectors can decrease the risk of death by 70%.

To prevent scald burns to your child place items on the rear burner with the pot handle turned away from edge and keep hot liquids at least 10 inches from an edge. Maintain hot water heater at a temp of no more than 120 degrees F.

Drownings can be prevented first and foremost by constant adult supervision. Please ensure your child has swim lessons starting at 6 months of age. Place a fence around your pool edge and ensure that flotation devices are near by.
